Hello and welcome to the second Friday in July. This week here at C’est Si Bon, we will be celebrating all things French, since their Independence Day falls on July 14– also known as Bastille Day. As such, I’m sharing a few of my favorite French things to cook and eat this week.
First up is the French 75, a delightful lemony cocktail made with champagne. You can also use Prosecco if you’d like. Pick up some gin and some lemons, make some simple syrup, and mix up these light and refreshing drinks while you cook.
For dinner, try making filet au poivre. Cook your filets to medium rare and make the simple but rich au poivre sauce. Poivre is pepper in French, and this sauce is a perfectly creamy and peppery accompaniment to the filets.
For dessert, make a chocolate soufflé and feel transported to a Parisian brasserie. Pop it in the oven to bake while you eat your filets and it will be ready just in time.
