It was late 2013.  The brother duo for King & Country was at new heights in their career and ministry.  But just like the apostle Paul, who during a period of spiritual and ministry heights, was stricken with a thorn in the flesh that would bring into question that ministry and success.

It was at that time that CCM Magazine reported that Luke Smallbone, one half of for King & Country, had become gravely ill.  Even to the point that the band had to stop touring and recording.  Smallbone was then diagnosed with digestive disorder — ulcerative colitis.  "I got down to around 125 pounds. I had hit my lowest of lows, and for a guy that is 6’4 and that frail, I truly looked like I just got out of a concentration camp. This obviously led to needing to come off the road and shut it down for a while to focus on my health," Luke told CCM Magazine.

But that all changed on November 9th, 2017, when Luke reported on his social media a dramatic shift for the better:

"For the last 5 years, I’ve hoped to hear a doctor say, “Luke, you’re in remission” but that statement has alluded me up until 2 days ago. This picture was taken shortly after I️ woke from a small procedure that confirmed that remission has taken place."

Just like the rest of us, Luke had asked God "why".  Why would such a debilitating sickness come to a faithful servant, to the point where that servant was not able to minister from the stage?  But just as with the apostle Paul, God responds that His grace is sufficient.

"I️ used to wonder why I️ got sick but I️ don’t anymore. It’s been the single greatest tool in teaching me about the grace of Jesus and because of that, this disease is something I️ can’t help but thank God for. It’s taught me, JOY! Thanks for your prayers. Thanks for the encouragement. Thanks for your friendship! -L"

for King & Country is in the middle of "A Glorious Christmas Tour", which encompasses performances in points of western Europe as well as across the United States.  For the first time in 5 years, Christmas this year will have an exceptional meaning for Luke Smallbone.
