Unbelief and Faith Don’t Mix

That flood of negative thoughts and emotions which comes against you when you’re trying to have faith in God is called unbelief. Unbelief lives in your flesh. Faith lives in your spirit. Please don't consider unbelief as just a lack of faith—because it isn't. Great faith and great unbelief can go on at the same time. And if you don't treat them as separate conditions you will be unable to bring your faith up to the level that God intends for you.

Polluting Faith with Unbelief

Because God is not intimidated by what we face, we don't have to be intimidated either. He will walk us through our circumstances in a demonstration of His love toward us. He has even made it possible for us to have joy and peace as we go through our circumstances with Him.
“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33 NKJV)
When we add a pain‐killer (in any form) to any request we make of Him, we have mixed two different systems. And we have neutralized faith, because faith in God plus anything else is no longer faith. The “anything” we add to faith is called “unbelief” in the Bible.

Making Assumptions

When faith in God appears to result in failure we tend to question God before we ever question ourselves.
How have you responded to your disappointments in faith? Have you lowered God's standards so low that it is as likely for your prayers to be answered as it is likely for the sun to come up each morning? Or have you just grown cynical?
God doesn't want you to lower your standards for faith to the lowest common denominator, and He certainly doesn't want you to be a cynic when it comes to having faith in Him. But He doesn't want you to become an optimist either. He wants you to be a realist, knowing His true nature.
“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.” (1 John 4:7–11 NKJV)
Run all of your assumptions about the reasons God hasn't responded to you like you wanted Him to respond through this “Love Filter.” In other words, if your assumption doesn't fit with the reality that everything about God is about love, throw your assumption out the window.

Mother's Day Gift

Turning on the Lights

As long as we insist on associating faith in God with persuading God to do things for us, it is as if we are trying to make our way through life in the dark. When I stumble around in the dark, so to speak, all that comes out of my mouth is, “God! I need …! I need …!” If I'm hungry it's, “God, I need some food!” as I search about for something to eat—hoping I'll grab human food instead of dog food. If I need to get out of a storm it's, “God, I need some shelter!” as I run around looking for someplace dry—hoping I'll find a place of safety instead of a place of danger.
Stumbling around in the dark, bouncing from one circumstance to another, crying out to God, “I need …! I need …!” is not faith. Faith is turning on the light switch, so I can see what is true and what is not true. Faith is seeing what surrounds me in the light of truth.
And the truth is that God knows what I need.
“If then God so clothes the grass, which today is in the field and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will He clothe you, O you of little faith? And do not seek what you should eat or what you should drink, nor have an anxious mind. For all these things the nations of the world seek after, and your Father knows that you need these things. But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you. Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” (Luke 12:28–32 NKJV)

Faith Is Not the Tool of Choice to Persuade God

Can you even imagine the kind of a hell on earth you would be living in if God had given you everything you'd ever asked Him for? But in spite of that chilling thought, faith is generally considered as the tool of choice to persuade God to accept our point of view! We have made our relationship with God just a relationship of convenience. And we have used faith as the primary tool to get there.
Oh, this doesn't go down easy! I understand. But it doesn't go down easily, only because we underestimate the power of living in the presence of God—relying on Him for every word we speak and every action we take.
God does not draw us to a particular philosophy, a particular worldview, a particular set of beliefs, a particular code of conduct. God draws us to Himself.

God Is Not Just a Problem Solver

If we are working our own works, our relationship with Jesus must necessarily be self‐serving, because we will constantly be running to Him when we crash and burn from trying to do things our way. But if we are working His works, we will be drawn to Jesus for His purposes and not ours.
And we will never run out of steam when we work in His presence with His resources—like we do when we are operating in our own strength. The work He equips us to do does not require our kind of rest—but His kind of rest. It is impossible, in a human sense, to be at work and at rest at the same time. But the work God has for us to do flows out of resting in Him—resting in what He has already done.
The yoke Jesus gives us is wearable, and the burden He gives us is bearable. But we create this pattern of working on our own under a burden we can't carry, running to Him for relief when we can no longer handle it—only to return to that same burden for a repeat performance.
When we become trapped in this cycle, our faith in God is limited to the self‐serving purpose of survival. But there's so much more.

Salvation Prayer,
Dear Lord Jesus, come into my heart. Forgive me of my sin. Wash me and cleanse me. Set me free. Jesus, thank You that You died for me. I believe that You are risen from the dead and that You’re coming back again for me. Fill me with the Holy Spirit. Give me a passion for the lost, a hunger for the things of God and a holy boldness to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. I’m saved; I’m born again, I’m forgiven and I’m on my way to Heaven because I have Jesus in my heart.
Amen!

An Open Door (Sermon Jam)

This video jam titled "An Open Door" comes from a sermon preached by Benjamen Leahey "I Have Set Before You an Open Door".

There is a time when the people of God have an open door set before them and they could cross over and enter in. God sets an open door before every generation. This open door is the finished work of Calvary. We can no longer draw back! We must press on and possess the land! God has opened the door to maturity, strength, and faith. Now is the time to enter in by faith! The way has been opened; the Accuser of the Brethren has been cast down. Do you want to be made well? God had brought the people of Israel to the entrance of the Promised Land for a second time. The first time they refused to enter so they were brought through years of refinement, trial, and purification in the wilderness. God has purified them of their former lack of faith. God reminds them at the border of the Promised Land of all that He had done. But it comes down to a trial of the will. Are they willing to enter in? We must remember what God has done and enter in by faith! We must be free of our self-sufficient attitude! We must live by faith and completely depend upon the Lord! To live by faith is to acknowledge that God is our only provision. We must come to Him in weakness and humility! The land that the Lord has promised is a land of provision of all things they need. They will lack nothing. But even in this there is a danger and a warning.
