At one point, Layla whimpered the smallest whimper—barely a sound—and Samantha was there like a nurse on high alert. “Oh baby, I’ll get you anything you need, just say the word.”

Luna side-eyed so hard I swear the couch tilted, and Layla couldn’t believe how her sis was playing it up for the extra attention.  But still, she stayed in the room. Because even if her sister was being just a bit extra, Luna knew love when she saw it. And in the end, that’s what this house runs on—Snacks, side-eyes, sacred blankets, and a whole lot of compassion for one sore knee and a dog who knew how to milk it.

To them, it's the most important thing in the world—being with us, sharing life, and adding their own touch of sweetness to everything we do. It doesn’t matter if it’s a grocery run, long evenings on the porch or cuddling up beside us in bed at night.

What’s even more precious is how they love us so unconditionally. No matter the weather, no matter how messy life might get, they’re always there. Thank God they never judge.  What I love most is that they’re simply thrilled to be a part of our lives. They show us every day that sometimes, the best friends are the ones with fur and paws and wagging tails.

So, next time you find yourself at the park or simply enjoying a quiet moment at home, remember how much joy your dog brings to your life. They're not just dogs—they’re a reminder that love is patient, kind, and always there when you need it most. And Kona? So with a heart heavy as a grain sack, she knocked on over 200 doors—yes, two hundred—until she found him a home that could take him in. A place with open space, open hearts, and roosters welcome. But this isn’t a story of goodbye. Because love like this doesn’t just end.

Sanaz still visits Jojo every day. She shows up, and Jojo still runs. They take car rides together—just a woman and her rooster, driving through town like it’s the most normal thing in the world. They stop at the coffee shop, sit side by side, and share pastries. Jojo nibbles delicately while staying right beside his person, content just to be near her.

“He is everything to me, and I’m like a mom to him,” Sanaz says. “I raised him with so much love, and I think this is why Jojo is like this.”

Everyone has been blessed with different skills and gifts. Some people may have one area where they naturally excel while others may have multiple places where they are gifted. Some people may be strong public speakers, athletes or actors. Other people may shy away from doing anything in public. Instead, they might have a knack for writing, painting or drawing.

Regardless of the skills and talents we’ve been given, they are unique to us. God is in the business of creating individuals, one-of-a-kinds, not replicas or duplicates. Apparently, as one laugh-out-loud video posted on social media shows, this includes members of the animal community.

In the clip, a group of men wearing Minnesota Viking apparel beat on drums also decked out in Viking logos. The guys sound fantastic as they show off their considerable and impressive musical talents, likely right before the Vikings were scheduled to take the field. Well, as it turns out they did need some additional help. A duck offers some assistance, lending a hand or, to be more accurate, some feet. Seconds into the video, one man kneels before a drum while he holds a duck. Surprisingly and hilariously, the duck knows precisely what to do. 

The animal swiftly moves its feet up and down, beating on the drum. Astonishingly, the duck finds and then keeps the rhythm with its fellow drummers throughout the clip.
