Review: Iggy’s Nashville

While in Nashville, I had a pleasure of trying a restaurant called Iggy‘s. My husband and I met up with some friends who live there and off we went.

It’s a newer place doing gorgeous modern Italian food and expertly crafted cocktails, and it did not disappoint. The plates were intended for sharing, and we had a great time ordering and tasting quite a few menu items.

First we ordered some cocktails. The men had traditional Negronis and we ladies tried a drink called the Chrysanthemum—a mix of vermouth, Benedictine, and absinthe. It was slightly sweet and herbal, while being beautifully smooth and balanced. A great start to our evening.

Along with cocktails, we ordered a few starters for the table. The Greener Roots Gem Lettuce salad had crunchy toasted almonds, crisp apples, and Manchego cheese topped with a tangy chardonnay vinaigrette. Also to start, we had an incredible and luxurious offering from their menu— their Burrata & Caviar: one ounce of Royal Belgian Osetra caviar served with the creamiest burrata, a bright herb oil and crispy toasted foccacia. It was a perfectly rich and wonderful couple of bites.

Their mains consisted mostly of pasta, and we ordered three to try for the table. The Ricotta Tortellini had a parmesan butter sauce, chives, lemon, and a generous shaving of Périgord black truffles on top. It was so delicious and creamy. The Parmesan butter sauce was rich and creamy yet light at the same time, and the truffles added an incredible depth of flavor. The other pastas we ordered were also amazing and I’m truly not sure which I liked more.

Their “Little Shells” (the house made lumache pasta) was served with Maine peekytoe crab, sea urchin butter, Japanese red chiles, yuzu, and a dusting of powdered roasted seaweed. The sea urchin butter and crab were delicately rich and flavorful, while the red chilies added a touch of heat and the yuzu brought brightness to this dish. Every bite was perfect and I haven’t stopped thinking about it.



The Spaghetti Aglio e Olio was simple yet perfectly executed—toasted garlic and extra virgin olive oil brought the classic Italian flavor of this signature pasta, and the parsley and lemon brought tang and brightness. The parmesan, breadcrumbs, and Italian chili flakes rounded out the dish with a perfect balance of saltiness and heat to finish.

To end our meal, we shared one of their delightful sundaes—a chocolate/vanilla swirled soft-serve ice cream made in house, served on top of a caramel toffee sauce. It was so rich and creamy, and the toffee bits added nice bit of texture and crunch.

Every bite I took at Iggy’s was an incredible burst of flavor, as well as being perfectly balanced. The pasta is beautiful and clearly  expertly made with great love and care for the art. I am delighted that I was able to eat there, and look forward to going back the next time I’m in Nashville.
